Relapse: Nocturnal was my second collaboration with DP and timelapse filmmaker Phil Arntz. He had been working in Las Vegas with another DP, Ryan Killackey, and they had taken some stunning footage, perfectly capturing the neon hedonism of the city.

They asked me to create an indie/electropop soundtrack, which I did, while trying to make the sound big and glitzy. Screaming washes of electric guitars and overdriven drums are mixed with a chordal motif on a Wurlitzer electric piano and a number of synthesized melody lines. Las Vegas is a fabulously colourful tourist destination, spectacularly excessive and brilliantly capitalist, and I wanted to reflect this in a soundtrack that was both commercial and beautiful.
